Rita Ray, The Shrine, Bracknell, England South Hill Park Arts Centre
hosts Rita
Ray and The Shrine, Saturday March 20 at the Atrium in Bracknell. The
Shrine, London's hottest Afro-Beat club, is itself an homage to the late,
great Nigerian musician, Fela Kuti. Ray, a DJ, musician, World Service presenter,
and founder of The Shrine, will be featured in a night of the hottest, steamiest
and raciest Afro-Funk this side of Kuti's legendary club, a hotbed of intellectual
and artistic activity.
Bong for the Beat! The One World Beat festival got an early boost February 7, thanks to Greg Viljoen (aka Mr Bong) in South Africa, who made an early donation and gave OWB preparations a lift. He donated proceeds from his "drum 'n' bass / house 'n' breaks" night to One World Beat's primary charity, Keep a Child Alive.
SENSE at Carfax in Newtown featured Dieselboy and MC Messinian on the
drum 'n' bass floor, with Ambush and Organic, The Final Plate, Syndrome,
Latitude and DJP in support. The house 'n' breaks floor features Mr Bong
and bRotheRMAN, Stuart Hillary, Missile Myles, Frank J. and Jon S. TwoTwiggs
Xperiment provides band management, promotion and development in South Africa.
The website features
music, merchandise and events listings; also read about Caytie Marvelis,
a band developing a bridge between live band music and electronic dance
music. Email.
