Spain: Charity concert brings together all ages in a celebration of life
By Sasha Regehr - October 25, 2006

Stirring tributes and toe-tapping hits raise thousands for end-of-life care at World Hospice Day event

Rojales, SPAIN – The Voices for Hospices concert at the Teatro Capitol on October 21 was a celebration of life through the celebration of music as top local performers, both young and old, took the stage for the Sweet Charity Hospice Fund. Among the numerous acts were PDQ, the Velvetones, Just Brass, the Infinity Duo, and children from the Starlight Musical Academy. The songs spanned pop music’s history, covering crowd-pleasing hits from the musical Annie to ABBA to Nat King Cole. Hopeful and festive songs, coupled with moving tributes to those helped by Sweet Charity, kept the concert relevant to the cause. Sales of entrance tickets, a CD of the concert performers, and raffle tickets raised 2305€ that night. Combined with various fundraising events held throusghout October, over 10,000€ have been raised. Sweet Charity’s proceeds are used to fund nurses, doctors and palliative care for the terminally ill, with this month’s proceeds specifically going towards the purchase of beds for cancer patients.
