USA – Local acts team up with local charities in New York City
By Sasha Regehr - October 17, 2006

Beastie Boys show support for anti-animal cruelty cause in intimate performance.

MANHATTAN, USA – The concert dubbed “Gimme Shelter: Rock and Rescue NYC” included multiple local punk and grunge artists who excited the audience at the Maritime Hotel on October 4 to raise money against animal cruelty. In only their second appearance this year, the Beastie Boys took the stage for an hour, playing hits from 1986s “License to Ill” album through to 2004s “To The 5 Boroughs.” Concertgoers paid US$50 for general admission tickets and up to US$875 for VIP tickets. All of the profits from the exclusive show went to New York’s Rational Animals and the national American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Rational Animals helps homeless animals across the city and aims to make NYC a no-kill city by 2010. On October 4, they moved closer to their goal with the help of homegrown musicians.
