On
March 19th, starting at 7pm, Paddy
McGinty's in Adeje, Spain will host
an OWB benefit featuring Bard of Ely,
Old Dogs New Tricks, M4, Arturo, and
Terry Whelan. Bard of Ely is a singer,
songwriter, poet, compere, eco-warrior,
actor, techno-folk fusion pioneer,
and ordained Celtic Bard who is the
principal bard of the Travelling Court
of Camelot, the musical wing of a
Druid order. He is also an author--"Herbs
of the Northern Shaman" (book)
and articles for the Health Section
of the Tenerife News--and is featured
in many himself, "a genuine iconic
figure".
Bard of Ely plays a mainly acoustic,
eclectic mixture of self-penned songs
and covers. He has often been compared
with Neil Young and his music has
been released on the Welsh Crai Records
label, as well as having tracks on
the Green Man Festival CD. He has
performed several times at the Glastonbury
Festival and was the compere for the
Avalon Stage 2 years in a row. Bard
of Ely's music has been used on several
TV programmes including 'Family Affairs'
on Channel 5. His controversial "You're
a Liar, Nicky Wire" was rave
reviewed in the NME. He is the frontman
for TAFFIA, a 3-member band which
has recently released an EP of the
same name.
Old Dogs New Tricks are a duo who
perform rock covers and have become
one of the most popular acts on Tenerife.
They have released four CDs, including
"Better Late...Than Never",
"Better Than Average Party CD",
and "Dangerously Better",
their latest. In May they will be
touring the UK, and a DVD is in the
works. They can be seen seven nights
a week in cabaret bars and hotels,
playing their extensive repertoire
of songs from the '60's through the
latest releases, including the music
of Cher, Blondie, The Pretenders,
The Who, Joe Cocker, The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones, Shania Twain,
Sheryl Crow, and many others.
Jill, on guitar and vocals, has a
background in theater and Cole Porter
musicals, as well as early classical
training, which earned her the moniker
"the Julie Andrews of rock".
Changing her voice from sweet soprano
to husky baritone, she has now become
a favorite at smoky pubs and nightclubs.
Bob, on guitar and vocals, has long
had a dream to be a rock star, but
detoured into football and then played
the UK with the Rosettis--a popular
R&B and blues band--first, before
forming Old Dogs New Tricks and touring
throughout the south of England for
five years, appearing in pubs and
clubs with a repertoire of classic
rock and R&B.
