On
Friday, March 18th, rock musician elena
(who spells her name with a small "e")
will appear at the Clapham Grand in
London for the launch party of One World
Beat Radio. She will be on-stage at
6:45pm, and will be going acoustic for
this event. elena, who performed during
OWB
2004 at The Garage in London, will
join friends Gaudi and the Asian Dub
Foundation (with duo Tetine forming
the rest of this stellar line-up) to
celebrate the unveiling of our newest
project. OWB Radio, with UK-based Fari
Bradley at the helm, will feature the
latest in OWB news, musician interviews,
and the glorious gamut of musical styles
and genres which is helping OWB--and
its artists, participants, fans, volunteers,
partners, and supporters--to make a
difference for youth and people in need.
Italian-born
elena, described by one critic as
"pure sex, pure rock, pure emotion,
and what a voice!", has a special
style, stage presence, and enough
hauntingly beautiful songs to guarantee
her star power. Her first release,
the 3-song EP "The Last Night
On Earth", was an exciting introduction
to this fresh new rock act. "Glimpse",
her debut album ("sinuous, muscular,
melodic"), is due out on Delicious
Records in early 2005. Often compared
to Marianne Faithful, with music influenced
by the likes of PJ Harvey and The
Velvet Underground, elena's passion
comes through in her undeniably unique
and gripping performances.
Her
band consists of talented musicians
hailing from across the UK and America,
and she is currently in negotiations
with major record labels in the USA,
as well as preparing for a spring
2005 tour to the USA and UK appearances
to support the release of "Glimpse".
Her latest single--"With Those
Eyes"--released as a limited
edition in the UK, has garnered the
rare distinction of having both A
and B sides honored by music-industry
Bible, "Record of the Day",
on consecutive days. elena also has
a new website, sexwithguitar (www.sexwithguitar.com
), which acts as a forum, picture
gallery, and fanbase for the band.
