On
March 20th, from 4-6pm at the Hard
Rock Cafe in Amsterdam, the cover
band Brixx will be playing for the
Beat. Brixx (www.brixxband.nl
) is a nine-member group playing music
from the '70’s, '80’s
and '90’s, including a Dutch
repertoire. Most members work for
the same company, KPMG, one of the
largest accounting and auditing firms
in the world.
Besides the standard band make-up,
Brixx has 2 saxophone and 2 trumpet
players, giving it a massive volume
and a special character. Because all
members of the band have "day"
jobs, playing for Brixx is not a necessity
to earn money. Therefore Brixx has
decided that all earnings from the
band will go into a special charity
fund. This charity fund will finance
free concerts by Brixx for organisations
which do not have the means to hire
a semi-professional band. Furthermore,
other fundraising concerts (such as
One World Beat) will be sponsored
by this charity fund. Members of Brixx
participate in the board of the fund.
The only thing the members of Brixx
will "earn" by performing,
as they say themselves, is the great
feeling of raising funds for charity,
coupled with a good musical vibe which
they hope to convey to their listeners,
and the pure joy of playing the music
they love. Brixx is about fundraising
and fun, not only fun with each other
but also fun and chemistry with the
audience.
The Hard Rock Cafe (www.hardrock.com
) is one of OWB's "bricks",
supporting us each year with concerts
and caring. The OWB concert this year
will be in celebration of their sixth
anniversary in Amsterdam, and to commemorate
the occasion, the "6th Anniversary
Collectable Herman Brood Saxophone
Pin" will be released. Hard Rock
is truly a musical gift that keeps
on giving, and we're delighted to
express our gratitude by tooting their
horn in return!
