"Unity Drums" Events in California,
Taipei, Yunlin, Tainan
One World Beat
is thrilled and honored to announce the second
year of participation for the "Unity Drums"
gatherings, organized by oneVillage
Foundation and its president, Joy Tang, who
will also be performing this year, as she did
in 2005. For more info, contact Joy Tang at joy@onevillage.biz.
In 2006, there will be four events, one in the
USA and three in Taiwan, a country new to the
festival! A huge welcome to musicians there, and
a giant "thanks" to Joy, other members
of OVF, and the friends who have come together
worldwide to make a difference through music.
Events will be held in Campbell, California, and
several cities in Taiwan. For a full roster, please
read below. Last year, concerts were held in San
Jose, Sunnyvale, and Oakland California, as well
as in Burkina Faso and Ghana, with West African
drumming and dancing featured. This year, the
message and mission--love, community, peace, unity--are
the same, as are the African rhythms. Only the
setting will change: this time around they'll
be coming from Asia instead of Accra!
All "Unity Drums" Events for 2006 are

Venue: 1062 Fewtrell Dr. Campbell, CA, USA

we experience peace and unity. Friends of Unity
Drums will gather to connect with our neighbors
on May 7th for a celebration for One World Beat
2006! We will be playing traditional African rhythms
as well as jamming as we go. We are honored to
be part of this global echoing for Peace and Unity.
We are also excited to have three drumming and
performing groups from Taiwan joining us this
year! They are DjembeShowDancer, 06 Drum Beat,

of the convergence of cultures among the continents
of Asia, America, and Africa!

Kuku Percussion is a performing group playing
African traditional djembe rhythms. Over the years,
the group has also added instruments and styles
from around the world--Latin America, Middle East,
India, and Brazil--and has brought the world's
traditions together to share with listeners and
communities. The members in Kuku Percussion come
from different walks of life: musicians, teachers,
and other professionals. In recent years, world
music has become popular in Taiwan.
Kuku Percussion's musical and cultural outreach
have therefore won tremendous popularity! They
have participated in the Taipei Children's Art
Festival 2003, Australia Culture Festival 2004,
India Culture Festival 2004/5, Anti-War in Iran
Event 2004, International Tourism Fair 2005, and
Shi-Che Dream Community Carnival 2005, as well
as other events and celebrations.
The name "Kuku" comes from the drumming
rhythms of West Africa. Originally, Kuku was played
when the women came back from fishing. Today,
Kuku is a popular rhythm played at all kinds of
festivals. The founder of Kuku Percussion is an
experienced musician, Teacher Charles, who leads
disciplined training to expand the horizon of
the skills and artistic expressions of the group
members.
