in Stow, Ohio, a drumming and dancing event will
take place, complete with pot-luck break and plenty
of energetic fun! The drumming begins at 5pm,

will continue after dinner. For more info, contact

The
Wellness Center, 3984 Kent Road (#330-686-2979),
is a perfect place to experience the healing power
of drums and drumming. It offers a range of healing-arts
activities (Reiki, Hypnotherapy, energy balancing),
classes (bellydancing, yoga, drumming), groups
("Empowering Women", "Community
Healing"), and workshops ("Beginning
Meditation", "Smoking Cessation").
The
Center offers "Path of the Drum" workshops,
whose goals include stress-reduction, an increase
in immune defenses, powerful experiences of connection
with a group, opportunities to creatively self
express, a fun way to relax, and release and rejuvenation
of mind, body, and spirit.
According
to their website:
Sound
has been used effectively by many of the world's
spiritual traditions to alter consciousness or
heal the body. Mantras, prayers, and chants all
generate a pattern of energy that calms the mind
and rebalances the body. Studies show that repetitive
sound transforms the alpha and beta wave patterns
in the brain into theta waves that facilitate
relaxation and creativity.
Recent studies suggest that therapeutic drumming
increases immune system function, controls pain,
relieves stress, and has been successful in treating
serious conditions such as substance abuse, alcoholism,
AIDS, adrenal failure, high blood pressure and
cancer. Research also suggests that therapeutic
drumming is also effective for treating emotional
challenges such as depression, anger, and anxiety.
Sound
has also been used as an effective tool for opening
the body's various energy meridians and chakras.
Much of the power of sound lies in its rhythm
or cyclical beat because the physical body seems
to be sensitive to cyclical rhythms . The sound
of one rhythm may invoke feelings of euphoria;
the sound of another may provoke fear. By altering
rhythms or beats, sound can effectively create
or alter emotions.
Trance
drumming creates a vibrational energy field that
brings the mind, body, emotions, and psyche of
an individual or group into harmony. It brings
the self into harmony with all living things,
and enhances awareness and well being.
Alex
Wedmedyk is a facilitator of self-healing and
spiritual growth workshops, using the power of
rhythm. He is a Master Drummaker, Drummer, Workshop
Facilitator, and Craftsman, who relates to a wide
range of human experience. He connects with compassion
and deep understanding to the struggles and challenges
of everyday life with a proactive, simple, solution-oriented
methodology.
He integrates the powerful methods of shamanism,
with ecstatic trance rhythms as well as rhythms
for fun-fulfillment. In this "Rhythmical
Attunement" process, Alex uses sound therapy
(Cymatics) to help people shed old patterns of
ill health, dissatisfaction and dysfunction and
realign their energy patterns to create a new
healthy more complete self. "Our inner strengths
and outer powers are directly related to how well
we move through our lives in rhythm."
The
workshops happen every Tuesday from 7:15 to 8:30
p.m. Cost: $15 for 1 class or $40 for the month.
